Founded in 2013, the Mediterranean Opera Studio & Festival is dedicated to nurturing young artists from around the world in a supportive and immersive environment. Our program offers the opportunity to explore operatic orchestral repertoire and master the art of collaboration between stage, chorus, and orchestra.

Set in Caltagirone, Sicily—a land rich in history, culture, and artistic heritage—the Festival provides an inspiring backdrop for musical growth. In 2026, we proudly present Verdi’s Rigoletto, Donizetti’s Don Pasquale, and Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro.

Over five intensive weeks, participants work closely with renowned conductors, directors, and fellow musicians while developing focus, professionalism, and endurance. Beyond the rehearsal hall, Sicily’s breathtaking landscapes, historic sites, and culinary treasures—from Taormina and Siracusa to Ibla and its beaches—offer experiences that are as enriching as the music itself. Some of our performances will be outdoors, so prepare accordingly.

Tuition

Mediterranean Opera Studio & Festival provides instrumentalists with full housing, meals (breakfast and lunch), laundry and room cleaning services, scheduled airport transportation on the Island (to and from Catania Fontanarossa Airport), and organized company excursions—all valued at over $3,000 USD.

Instead of paying this amount in tuition, participants contribute through their scheduled artistic responsibilities as part of a barter system. Upon successful completion of the program, each instrumentalist will also receive a $500 bonus.

To confirm your place in the orchestra, a $1,000 security deposit is required. This deposit will be fully refunded at the end of the program, together with the $500 bonus. The deposit represents a shared commitment between the participant and the Festival, ensuring mutual accountability throughout the program.

Housing

Participants are housed at the Convitto INPS in Caltagirone.  This is a college dorm facility.  Each participant has a single room with bathroom.

Should you opt for added comfort, you can also request housing at the NH Villa San Mauro Hotel at our discounted rate for the period (contact us for current rate).  The hotel is equipped with pool, air conditioning, etc.
