Tessa Chin was born and raised on the island of Maui, Hawai’i, and is currently based in
New York City, where she’s performed in musicals such as Godspell (Celeste), Tuck
Everlasting (Swing & Ensemble), Something Rotten! (Portia), and Spring Awakening (Ilse).
Now, a student at the Manhattan School of Music pursuing her Bachelor’s in Vocal
Performance, she has been seen in scenes such as Cherubino’s duet in The Ghosts of
Versailles, Carolina in Il matrimonio segreto, and Arminy in Carousel. In 2025, Tessa made
her Opera debut singing Barbarina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro at the Hawaii Performing
Arts Festival, and she has sung in concert spaces across the nation, including the Historic
‘Iao Theater, Maui Arts and Cultural Center, the Green Room 42, and Carnegie Hall.
Though based in New York City, Tessa is passionate about bringing music education back to
her hometown of Lāhainā, Hawai’i. When she is home, she volunteers her time with Wave of
Harmony and Maui Onstage. She also collaborates with ProArts Maui to create classical
concerts that are accessible and affordable to Maui residents. Closest to her heart is her
childhood Theatre camp, Theatre Theatre Maui (TTM). Tessa has been an intern with TTM
for over ten years and was honored to be invited back as an instructor for a Vocal Intensive
Workshop in 2025. While back in the city, she continues to teach her Maui-based studio remotely.
