
Samantha Malk, mezzo-soprano, has performed across Europe, Asia, the Americas, and her native South Africa. Her operatic roles include Dido, Dorabella, Cherubino, Carmen, Sesto, and Nicklausse, and she has appeared as a soloist with the International Contemporary Ensemble and the Mark Morris Dance Group. In recital and concert, she has performed widely, including at Carnegie Hall, Concertgebouw Brugge, Seiji Ozawa Hall, and Snape Maltings.
Renowned as a teacher and mentor, Malk’s students have gone on to engagements with leading opera houses and festivals such as the Bayerische Staatsoper, LA Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, Opéra National de Paris, Komische Oper Berlin, Tanglewood, Verbier, and Broadway. Her students are also active in major Young Artist Programs including the Metropolitan Opera, Staatsoper Hamburg, Opéra de Montréal, Israeli Opera, and SongStudio at Carnegie Hall, and have won recognition in competitions such as the Laffont, Gerda Lissner, Maria Callas, and Gold Medal–London.
She has served on the faculties of the Metropolitan Opera, Israeli Opera, Lakes Area Music Festival, International Vocal Arts Institute, and Brooklyn College. A graduate of Indiana University and the Manhattan School of Music, she is currently Deputy Head of Vocal Studies at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama.
