Anglo-Irish baritone Rory Mulchrone was born in 1985 and began singing as a boy chorister at Exeter Cathedral. He won a music scholarship to Ampleforth College in Yorkshire, where he was a member of the Abbey’s highly regarded ‘Schola Cantorum’.
Rory’s love of opera began in earnest during his undergraduate years at University College London, when he sang comprimario roles for the college’s well known operatic society alongside visiting professional artists. Later, Rory enjoyed performing with the chorus of Chelsea Opera Group.
Formal studies followed at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester, where Rory trained with David Maxwell Anderson, David Kempster and Nicholas Powell, before gaining a Masters degree in 2015.
After a period of time away from the profession, Rory is currently studying for an Artist Diploma at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance, in London, under Neil Baker. He is also privileged to have taken a number of private lessons with Nelly Miricioiu.
A versatile performer, Rory’s repertoire spans a wide range, from Mozart to Menotti. He very much looks forward to portraying Count Almaviva in ‘The Marriage of Figaro’ this summer and to covering the part of the eponymous jester in ‘Rigoletto’.
