Raine Filbert, American mezzo-soprano, is a spirited and passionate performer whose voice has been described as powerful, rich, and warm. Raine is a recent graduate from Manhattan School of Music (MSM) where she earned her M.M. in Classical Voice under the tutelage of mezzo-soprano, Susan Quittmeyer. While studying at MSM, Raine had the opportunity to perform roles in various operatic styles including contemporary, dramatic, and opera buffa – giving her a wide variety of stage experience.
In December 2024, Raine performed the role of Eva Crowley in the New York City premiere of Jack Perla’s An American Dream at MSM. Throughout that experience she gained a new found appreciation and love for contemporary opera.
This past January, Raine won the encouragement award in the Idaho-Montana district of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition.
Raine has performed the roles of Second Woodsprite (Rusulka), Eva Crowley (An American Dream), Ruth (Pirates of Penzance), and covered Suzy (La Rondine).
In opera scenes Raine has performed Carmen (Carmen), Dorabella (Cosi fan Tutte) Hansel (Hansel und Gretel) and the Secretary (The Consul). She was a soloist in Rorem’s Evidence of Things Not Seen and performed Elgar’s Sea Pictures with the University of Puget Sound Symphony Orchestra in April 2023. Raine received her B.M. in Vocal Performance from the University of Puget Sound while studying with mezzo-soprano, Dawn Padula.
This summer, Raine is excited to be immersed in the Italian language and culture to inspire not only her performances of Maddalena and Giovanna in Verdi’s Rigoletto, but also challenge and broaden her abilities as a performer at Mediterranean Opera Studio and Festival.
