Rachel Schmutz is an emerging soprano currently pursuing a degree in Vocal Performance at Utah Valley University, where she studies under the esteemed Dr. Melissa Heath. Her artistic journey began in the dance studio, where she trained for eleven years in a wide range of styles. During that time, she performed with Center Stage, earned a scholarship to compete at Nationals in California, and was named the 2021 Dance America Concert Championships Overall Solo Champion.
At sixteen, she expanded her training to include acting and voice, studying with Joshua Lindsay before being accepted to the prestigious Open Jar Institute in New York City. There, she trained intensively in dance, acting, and singing under Jeff Whiting and other Broadway professionals, further solidifying her passion for performance.
Her stage experience includes standout theatrical roles such as Regina George in Mean Girls, Miss Scarlet in Clue, and Kitty in The Drowsy Chaperone at Springville High School. She later auditioned for and was accepted into UVU’s competitive Vocal Performance program, marking her formal transition into classical voice.
She has since performed as a chorus member and principal dancer in UVU’s production of Amahl and the Night Visitors. This summer, she makes her international opera debut at the Mediterranean Opera Festival and Studio in Sicily, performing the roles of Barbarina in Le Nozze di Figaro and Countess Ceprano in Rigoletto.
With a foundation rooted in dance, theater, and classical voice, Rachel brings dynamic stage presence and versatility to every performance. Her greatest dream is to share stories through music on stages around the world, and she is thrilled to continue that journey in Sicily this summer.
