
American tenor Andrew Owens, whom the Irish Times described as having a, “ringing top register, and easy fluidity to bel-canto writing” has quickly built a reputation as a promising singer of his generation, exhibiting a beautiful Italianate timbre, soaring top notes, and effortless agility. In the 2025-2026 season, Andrew Owens continues in the ensemble of Opernhaus Zürich, singing Alfred in a new production of Die Fledermaus, Dorvil in La scala di seta, and Jacquino in Fidelio. In concert, he joins the Baltimore Symphony for Duca in Rigoletto and sings Shanty in Paul McCartney’s Liverpool Oratorio with the Orchestre Philharmonique de Monte-Carlo.
As part of the Opernhaus Zürich ensemble, where he has been a member since 2021, Andrew Owens has performed Camille in Die lustige Witwe, Gualtiero in Il pirata, Arturo in Lucia di Lammermoor, Lord Cecil and the cover of the title role in Roberto Devereux, Max in the world-premiere of Jonathan Dove’s In 80 Tagen um die Welt, Beppe in I Pagliacci, and Telémachos in Evers’ Die Odyssee, Guglielmo in Viva la mamma, Pylade in Iphigenie en Tauride, Xaïloum in Barkouf, Brighella in Ariadne auf Naxos, and Jacquino in Fidelio, among others.
On the operatic stage, Andrew Owens has performed Count Almaviva in Il barbiere di Siviglia with Seattle Opera, Opera San Antonio, North Carolina Opera, Manitoba Opera, Glyndebourne Festival, Virginia Opera, Greensboro Opera and Florida Grand Opera, Don Ramiro in La Cenerentola with Irish National Opera, Arizona Opera, Opera Saratoga, and Greensboro Opera. A frequent guest at Theater an der Wien, he has performed Snout in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mads in Werner Egk’s Peer Gynt, Jakob Glock in Der Feurige Engel as well as Basilio, among others. He made his company and role debut with Seattle Opera as the Earl of Leicester in Maria Stuarda, and later returned as Bénédict in Béatrice et Bénédict. Other house and role debuts included Rossini Opera Festival as Aménophis in Moïse et Pharaon, the title role in Rossini’s rarely heard Aureliano in Palmira, Arturo with Opera Philadelphia, Rodolfo in La bohème for a semi-staged production with Jacksonville Symphony, Alfredo in La traviata with Boston Youth Symphony, the title role in Roberto Devereux with Washington Concert Opera, Jacquino in Fidelio with the Caramoor Festival, Lucano in L’incoronazione di Poppea and Shanty in Liverpool Oratorio, both with Cincinnati Opera.
