
Born in Mexico City, soprano Ana Paola Vergara is establishing herself as a promising young lyric soprano, having made both her European and North American operatic debuts. She earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with honors from West Virginia University under the guidance of Robert Chafin and recently completed her Master’s degree in Vocal Performance in Texas. Throughout her training, she has worked with renowned artists in masterclasses, including Lisette Oropesa, James Valenti, Matthew Rose, Luis Ledesma, and Michael Chioldi.
Ana Paola’s operatic performances span a wide range of repertoire. Recent roles include Euridice in Gluck’s Orfeo ed Euridice—a performance praised in ProOpera magazine for its “aproximación doliente y dramática, libre de excesos”—Zerlina in Mozart’s Don Giovanni, Musetta in Puccini’s La Bohème, Miss Wordsworth in Britten’s Albert Herring, Suor Osmina in Puccini’s Suor Angelica, and both The Owl and The Shepherd in Ravel’s L’enfant et les sortilèges. She has also appeared in Offenbach’s Les contes d’Hoffmann and in several opera workshop productions, portraying characters such as Susanna (Le nozze di Figaro), Rosina (Il barbiere di Siviglia), Nerone (L’incoronazione di Poppea), Elektra (Idomeneo), and Blanche (Dialogues of the Carmelites). Her recent production of Albert Herring was honored as a national finalist for The American Prize in Opera Performance in the College Division.
Her artistry has taken her to international stages through festivals and residencies. She has performed with the International Summer Opera Festival of Morelia, La Musica Lirica in Italy, and the Astoria Music Festival in Oregon, and has been featured in concert and recital programs including Echos of Love and Longing at Hemmle Recital Hall, gala performances at ISOFOM, and various international opera galas.
A dedicated competitor, Ana Paola has been recognized in several national and international competitions. She was a district finalist in the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, a national semi-finalist in the Classical Singer Competition, and a multiple-time district and regional winner in the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS).
